Overview
The Akyem Dwenase Health Center (ADHC) provides maternal and neonatal care to pregnant women in the rural town of Akyem Dwenase and the surrounding communities, a catchment population of approximately 3000 residents living in a ten kilometer radius. In addition to labor and delivery services, current maternal, neonatal, and child health (MNCH) activities offered at the ADHC include home visits, follow-up calls, and health outreach and screening events. These programs aim to encourage mothers to visit reproductive health clinics, provide follow up care, trace defaulters, encourage attendance at scheduled clinics, and provide general health knowledge to those in the community.
Context
ADHC is plagued by an inconsistent supply of medicine and supplies that limits the care provided at the health center. As a result, often patients must be referred to the District hospital located an hour away. In spite of these constraints, the ADHC remains dedicated to providing the best quality of care for the mothers they serve.
Challenge
Inventory management of medicines and supplies is currently done on using paper talley cards and requires a good deal of staff time.
Solution
The team developed a prototype to link the patient record with the use of essential medicines and supplies for MNCH care, to track key MNCH inventory, and to prevent stockouts. The mobile application is linked to excel dashboard to collect essential health information and keep a record of medicines and supplies used at the clinic.
Results
Based on the prototype developed by the team, the Health Committee is now designing and building a mobile application to manage health information and essential medicines and supplies.

Gloria Somuah Offram
Gloria is the Physician Assistant and Sub-District leader at Akyem Dwenase Health Center. She has been a client mentor for GH 743,GH 744, and GH 806.
Gloria Somuah Offram is the Physician Assistant at Akyem Dwenase Health Center. Gloria has been working with BUSPH as a client mentor for several practice based courses. Gloria got started in health care after high school working in the hospital out patient department. She then went to a community health nurses training school and pursued further training to become a general nurse. After serving as a nurse for several years, she went back to school to train as a physician assistant. She now doubles as the sub-district leader and physician assistant at Dwenase Health Center. She is a mother of four and still an avid student with the objective of getting her Master’s Degree in public health.
